Disciples Make Disciples
Don’t you love that feeling when someone just “gets it”? I’ve seen it very vividly a few times. Like when my son, who has really struggled in school, learned to read on his own for the first time. When he finally “got it” it felt so, so great. All of the effort and highs and lows paid off! Many times we were so close to giving up, but we made it! Maybe you’ve had similar feelings when you unlock that crucial part of a crossword puzzle or video game and the rest of the thing just falls into your lap? It’s the best!
I have great joy when a student in my ministry “gets it” too. When a student finally understands their true purpose it gives me satisfaction that they are on the right path and tracking for focused future with God.
Our entire ministry should be built on discipling students to experience moments like these. Helping them know Jesus, connecting them in the church, where they are growing in their faith and serving the Lord with their talents, skills and abilities.
Matthew 28:19, simply says: “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
The whole goal of discipleship is to create fully devoted followers of Jesus. In the context of youth ministry, we want to deepen their faith so when they graduate high school they don’t graduate from their faith. Our job, very simply, is to help students “get it”.
Got it?
